Landscapes
Landscapes have been my primary mode of painting since I discovered Bob Ross on Channel 9 as a teenager. While I do occasionally produce generic landscape paintings, I often work from photo references. I often start a painting in the field (en plein air), but I will often take photographs and finish the paintings in the studio from the photos. I will also use other photographers photos (usually from travel books and magazines) for references and I do try to either get permission to use them for references (as I did for the trout paintings), or at least try to change the composition and content substantially, rather than copying the reference too closely.
